Biological Pillar: In the beginning, Moana walked on the beach and was collecting seashells. The ocean then opens for Moana and she seen all the turtles and stingrays in the ocean. The ocean then reaches it's hand out to Moana for her to feel and it plays with her hair.
Cognition Pillar: Moana's Grandmother is recollecting old stories of Te fiti and this shows memory and their traditions. It explains why their people never leave the island and their traditional values. She talks about how Maui stole the heart of Te fiti and how after doing so, the islands have started to die, the sea's have gotten stronger and rougher, and Te Ka has reeked havoc.
Life Span Development and Learning Pillar: The elder generations teaches the history, beliefs, and traditions of their culture on Montunui to the younger generation. The young adults are teaching and continuing traditions for the younger generations to come. Moana also sets multiple examples of if you want to do something, do it. No matter what no one thinks and this is different from her elders.
Social and Personality Pillar: Moana is so inclined to go beyond the reef to save her people even though it's forbidden. Moana has wanted to leave and explore since she was a child and refused to conform like her people. Her personality is different from everyone else's because they've accepted the fact and would rather not go beyond the reef because of the ideas instilled into them about it being dangerous.
Mental and Physical Health: Moana's father won't allow her to leave the island no matter how hard she tries. Even when the island starts dying. So they constantly gaslight the people of Montunui and Moana that it's not safe to go beyond the reef. They have instilled that if you go beyond the reef, you'll die.
